I’m Bridget, the heart and voice behind this blog. Along with my wonderful husband Tom and our three adventurous daughters, Poppy (14), Charlie (10), and Winnie (7), we’re thrilled to share our family’s journey with you.

Our Turning Point

In 2022, I hit a major wall. I was juggling a demanding career, trying to be Supermum, and keeping up with the relentless pace of modern life. I was exhausted, burnt out, and just plain done. I remember thinking, “Is this really it? Is this what life is all about?” It was a wake-up call that something had to change. The solution? A radical, life-altering decision to embark on a year-long world travel adventure starting in January 2026. Crazy, right? But sometimes, you’ve got to be a little crazy to find your way back to sanity.

Why We Chose This Path

Our journey is about more than just seeing new places (though trust me, we’re all about those Instagram-worthy views). It’s about living intentionally, breaking free from the daily grind, and educating our children through real-world experiences. We want to show our girls that life is an adventure, full of endless possibilities, and that taking risks can lead to the most rewarding experiences. We’re not just taking a trip; we’re embarking on a mission to reclaim our joy, our time, and our sense of wonder.

The Plan

Over the next year and a half, we’ll be sharing every step of our preparation right here on Journey of Five. From renovating our home to become an Airbnb rental (ever tried home improvement with three kids? It’s an adventure in itself!), to planning our travel itinerary, homeschooling on the road, and navigating the emotional highs and lows of such a big change – you’ll get an honest, behind-the-scenes look at how we’re making this dream a reality.

Flexibility is Key

Originally, we planned this as a 12-month adventure, but we’ve decided to keep our plans flexible. I’m currently at university learning a new career that allows me to be a digital nomad. This means if we find our flow and want to stay on a bit longer, or stumble upon an amazing country that the whole family loves, we’re open to extending our travels. Who knows, maybe we’ll end up renovating one of those charming French chateaux or snapping up an Italian 1-euro home! The world is our oyster, and we’re ready to explore every possibility.

We’ll share our budgeting hacks (because let’s face it, family travel isn’t cheap), our packing lists (the essential and the “what were we thinking?”), and the inevitable mishaps and moments of pure joy.
